ABOUT THIS SITE
This site was created with the intent to inform consumers on what we consider to be a threat to the way we "think" we live. It was going to be a couple of pages with information on how we, consumers, are being abused and manipulated by what we refer to as "corporate". A "couple of pages" would not be sufficient enough to illustrate how we are being used,abused and manipulated by deceptive advertising.
One topic ties into another. There are 6 major areas that take priority simply because they are most used by the consumer. They are: Banks, Auto, Real Estate, Credit and Insurance. Areas like "cell phone" are not a necessity nor are many of the items we consder "luxury" , gym equipment ,video games etc., even though there is a tremendous amount of deception associated with them.
There are no paid advertisements on this site. However we will ocassionally make reference to what is considered a stellar company. The viewer visits the site's of their own choosing.
If you have been browsing our pages hopefully you have read "yellow pages an open book" , $6.15 gift card or "pay tv or pay commercials" If you haven't read them please do so before you leave this site so you will have a better understanding of what this site is all about. ..deception in advertising, scams and loss of control..not necessarily in that order.
For 25+ years we have been closely associated with training CID (criminal investigators) in determining deception in written statements, identifying forgeries interrogating / interviewing techniques and working cases involving Identity theft.
Long story short: In order to illustrate a particular point in class regarding deception, we would use articles from news papers. These articles were to aid in makeing clear one of the steps the investigators were learning. Any time we would need to convey a point all we needed to do was find a newspaper and look for deception. It usually took less than 2 minutes.
Finally we realized that when interrogating / interviewing a suspect and analyzing his/her words for deception, there was no difference from analyzing the ads that we had been using to illustrate a point. The principals remained the same and were proven time and time again to be accurate.
Being busy working Identity theft cases and our work load steadily growing, we had put little thought on the fact that that there were so many deceptive ads written not only in newspapers but in every type of media available. It occured to us that the reason the growth rate of white collar crimes, check kiteing, forgeries, identity theft, embezzlement, or any other financial crime was growing at a rate that surpasse's any other crime and is still on the increase is due in part to "corporate" deceptive advertising. "Corporate" wants 3 things (1) money (2) information (3) control...not necessarily in that order.
We decided to investigate and find out the why's and how's .. After 13 months of research we felt surely the general public was aware of our findings but quickly found that the general public has been to busy to notice or even care for that matter. Understandably so.
"To busy to to notice or even care" is the sole purpose for this web site.
A book was considered but the idea was quickly dismissed due to time constraints: Not our time constraints, your time constraints.and time is running out for the consumer, the masses, the general public.
We, the consumers are in a situation that has gotten out of hand; To illustrate, the article Yellow pages an open book" on this site gives a classic example of how important our privacy is and how desperately "corporate" wants it and will pay dearly for it. Why? Control. (see "Dangerous Receipt" for one example of how we are losing control") We are being abused and manipulated.
Obtaining your private information is now being done at hyper speed pace ,in all aspects of daily life, at grocery stores, gas pumps, movie theatres, banks, television, .everywhere.
When you check out at a grocery store you may not think that giving your address or phone number to the cashier is very important but rest assured it is. This is the information age. Anyone can find out everythig they need to know about anyone just by reading the "VIN"number on your vehicle. (See auto scams)
Control is the name of the game. Control the consumer and they will do our bidding. If this seems far fetched read the article Pay TV or PAY commercials and decide for yourself who has control, you or"corporate"
We are losing control. Your private information should remain just that PRIVATE.
There are governmental agencies (listed on this site) to help the consumer who has been victimized by scam artists. The problem is "victimized" means "after the fact." This site is intended to keep you from becoming a victim through knowledge. Knowledge is power. The free CD with membership contains an abundance of information that will, in the least, help you identify deception.
There are no commercial advertising's on this site. It is funded by membership subscription and donations.
Not all companies are crooked: Thank heaven there are good business's. We take issue with the bad business'es.
Instead of having a couple of pages on this site there is so much that needs be told This site contains a wealth of information and you not be able to read it all in one sitting. Not long ago when we wanted to purchase an item or shop at a store in was an equitable exchange of money for goods. A simple process. Today it is money and your personal information, a very dangerous situation. What is the forecast for our children ?
There are so many areas that need attention NOW. What issues shold take proiroity, losing control or deceptive business practices? We need member input.
