Here again is an example of how important your personal information is. Identity Theft is growing at such a rapid rate and consumers information is so readily available it is to the point of being obsene. So why would anyone want to put their information in cyber space on a daily basis. This makes no sense at all. The ad on the first page of this site is deceptive.
I have broken it down into 3 segents and will reproduce it here
The first "thumb" shows the entire ad that is placed on the web. Notice that what is predominate is the "GET ALL 3 FOR FREE" button. This is a great example of "divirsionary advertising"
(consult your CD)
The color and the size of the "get all 3 for free" button is the first thing that your mind will register. Note the wording just above the "button".
It states "ConsumerINFO.com and Credit CHECKTOTAL are not affiliated with the annual free credit report program. Under a new Federal Law you have the right to receive a free cop of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three Nation wide consumer reporting companies. To request your free annnual report under that law you must go t www. annual credit report. com.
Now this is fine and dandy. At least it's not sneak wrap. What is troubling is the message that is above and below the free button. It reads as follows .
Above the FREE button it states:listed under Important Information : When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in CREDIT CHECKTOTAL. If you don't cancell your membership within the 7 day trial period you will be billed $29.95 for each month that you continue your membership.
Below the FREE button it states: It may take 2-3 weeks for you to be eenrolled in the credit monitor program across all 3 companies and before you begin receiving alerts.
What this sounds like to me is that once enrolled, if you decide to cancell there may not be any record of your account for 21 days. You only have 7 days to cancell. Go figure. Not only that, they have your credit card information and will bill you for a minimum of one months service whether you use the service or not.
Credit: There are more scams companies out there who thrive on getting personal information from individuals who either dont know how important their personal credit information is or they are just to trusting.
Any compay who claims that they can "fix" you credit is full of baloney. The only one who can "fix" your credit is YOU.
There are a lot of ways these companies make money off of the uninformed. All these companies are in business to make money. Think for a minute. Here's an individual who is going bankrupt, has bills galore, dosen't know which way to turn so what do they do? Go deeper into debt and pay a company money that they don't have in the hopes that this "God sent" company will straighten out their mess.
The fees that these companies charge are outrageous. They lie and use deceptive advertising to lure the uninformed, and charge into the thousands.
Here's why they can't "fix" your credit.
Credit reporting works on a "round robin" basis. It works like this.
You live in area A. There are computers that have information about you and your buying habits as well as a credit score. Area B also has a computer that has all your information as does area C.
You live in "A". The information that is in the "A" computer is also in the "B" and "C" computer.
Ok, now you pay someone to remove the negative information from "A". When "C" reads the information that is in "A" and finds the "negative information is missing it will automatically put it back in. Now "A" reads "B" and if the information is correct "A" goes back home. If information is missing than "A" puts in the missing informaton and then goes back home.."B" reads "C" etc.
The only one who can effectively remove any "negative information is the vendor who is owed the money.
Morale: Take care of your negative credit removal yourself. Contact who ever you owe money to and work something out, anything. You will find that if you show you are trying most "reputable" comanies will be glad to work with you and you will save yourself a lot of money.
Know who you are working with. Companies like "800CREDIT" are nothing more than referral companies. They sell your information to other companies and will do little for you.
